Robotics Teacher Training: How the TokyLabs Bootcamp Takes You From Zero to Teaching

The TokyLabs Robotics Teacher Bootcamp is a live online programme that takes teachers with no engineering or coding background to running their own robotics classes. It costs $2,195 one-time with a 7-day money-back guarantee, and includes live lessons, a TokyMaker kit shipped before day one, one year of curriculum and a certificate of completion.

The bootcamp is called "from 0 to teacher" for a reason: it assumes you are starting from nothing. It was designed by TokyLabs founder Eduardo AlarcΓ³n, drawing on years of teaching and more than ten years in robotics education.

Do I need to know how to code or have an engineering degree?

No. The bootcamp starts from zero. You build with blocks first and move to MicroPython on the same board when you are ready, and you never need a technician in the room.

TokyLabs' view is that non-technical teachers often bring strong creative energy into a classroom. The training is built to support that, with step-by-step materials and live help until you feel confident.

What is included in the bootcamp?

The bootcamp includes live teaching, hardware, a year of curriculum and a certificate. The full list:

IncludedWhat it means for you
Live lessons with a TokyLabs trainerWeekly live sessions, recorded for later review, plus pre-recorded lessons during the week
A TokyMaker kitShipped to you before the first live lesson, so you build everything with your own hands
One year of curriculumLessons, projects and exercises ready to use and edit
Office hoursWeekly office hours on Fridays for one-to-one questions
Certificate of completionA TokyLabs certificate your school can log for professional development
Teaching platformA learning-management admin account to create courses, plus a profile in the TokyLabs teachers marketplace (beta)

Graduates can also join TokyLabs' affiliate programme and earn a commission on TokyMaker hardware sold to their students or school.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to run a real robotics lesson on your own. If your school plans against frameworks such as the ISTE Standards for Educators or the CSTA K–12 Computer Science Standards, use these outcomes to decide where robotics fits in your timetable. TokyLabs lists these practical outcomes:

  • Run a robotics lesson with TokyMaker or TokyMini, from unboxing to a working build.
  • Take students from blocks to MicroPython on the same board.
  • Wire sensors and motors into projects made of cardboard, straws and 3D prints, not pre-made robots.
  • Train an AI model in class, in the browser, on data your students collected themselves.
  • Set work in minutes, let it mark itself, and read the Learning Trace to see who is stuck before they raise a hand.
  • Run a hackathon day in your school, with a brief, a timeline and a showcase.

How is the bootcamp structured?

The bootcamp runs as a small live cohort with about 10 hours of content, combining live sessions, pre-recorded lessons and Friday office hours.

The course moves through seven chapters: an introduction to robotics; robotics fundamentals (electronics and programming); problem solving, including a debugging checklist and classroom set-up; choosing kits and tools for different ages; STEAM integration; getting started with the curriculum and platform; and next steps. Along the way you build projects such as a Hypercube with LED effects, a tank with an arm, an animatronic face and the Ottoky biped robot.

The flow is simple. Before: a 45-minute call to check the fit, then your kit ships. During: live lessons, your own builds and the curriculum unlocked as you go. After: the certificate, one year of curriculum and a support line for your first classes.

What if I already teach robotics and just want help?

Book live mentoring hours instead. These are one-to-one sessions with a TokyLabs mentor that you use as you go, whether you are already teaching or halfway through a project.

Can my school train several teachers?

Yes. Teacher training is also part of TokyLabs school bundles and the Curriculum as a Service programme for primary schools, which is priced for each school after a call. Schools new to TokyLabs can start with a free pilot workshop.

TokyLabs is an official Technology Partner of Google for Education and is listed in the Google Cloud Partner Directory.

Frequently asked questions

What if the bootcamp is not for me?

There is a 7-day money-back guarantee. If, within 7 days of the first live class, you decide it is not for you, TokyLabs refunds you in full.

Is it live or recorded?

Both. Weekly sessions are live with the trainer and recorded for later, and each section has resources you can review on your own.

What hardware do I get?

A TokyMaker kit is shipped to you before the first live lesson.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes. You receive a TokyLabs certificate of completion for the Robotics Teacher Training programme, which schools use for professional-development records.

How can I pay, and can I get an invoice?

Full payment is required to secure a place. TokyLabs accepts bank transfer in USD, EUR or CNY, Stripe, PayPal, WeChat Pay and Alipay, and can issue an international invoice or a Chinese fapiao.
